Columbus, in Franklin County, is the state's largest city and a reasonable first stop for a family in central Ohio. Cleveland and the surrounding Cuyahoga County cover the northeast, close enough to Lake Erie that winters run colder and snowier than the rest of the state. Cincinnati, on the Ohio River in Hamilton County, and Dayton, in Montgomery County, anchor the southwest. An Ohio-specific note on winter

A Shih Tzu's flat face makes hot, humid weather the harder challenge for this breed, so Ohio's climate is generally kinder than what a Texas or Florida breeder deals with. Winter still needs a plan, though. Road salt and de-icing chemicals on sidewalks can irritate paw pads, wipe paws down after a walk.
